Job Requirements (Education, Experience and Competencies)
Education:
- A Degree in Accounting/Finance
- Qualified or part qualified Chartered Accountant (ICAG, ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW) is a plus
- Qualified or part qualified in Chartered Institute of Taxation is a plus
Experience:
3 years relevant experience in Tax Administration
Knowledge:
- Tax Management
- Tax and other applicable laws – interpretation, compliance and application
- Accounting
- Financial acumen
- Negotiating and influencing Skills
- Excellent knowledge in spread sheets, database and document preparation applications
- Profound ability to interpret information and understand underlying commercial drivers of performance of Telecom industry.
- Good knowledge of MGP applications.

Job summary
Responsible for analysing, performing transactions, coordinating and reporting on all Direct taxation types (including Corporate Taxes, National Stabilization Levy, PAYE, Withholding taxes) in accordance with statutory requirements, MTN’s company policies, procedures and contractual obligations.

Key Tasks
- Corporate tax Computation and refund as required for Scancom Plc and its subsidiary
- Prepare and file estimated taxes as required by tax laws.
- Liaise with Senior Specialist, Direct Tax and Lead Consultant, Tax to obtain approvals on draft tax returns and corresponding documentation
- Submit approved returns (manually/online) and obtain acknowledgments from tax authorities
- Follow up with tax authorities on status of assessments and corresponding outcomes
- Draft requests for tax refunds along with preparation of supporting documentation, in alignment with local regulations
- Compute monthly and annual corporate tax and ensure proper provisioning
- Deferred tax: Ensure balance sheet approach of deferred tax is reconciled with income statement approach
- HFM Tax Computation Input to MTN Group Tax
- HFM Tax Cash flow and Deferred Tax Input to Management Reporting
- Income Tax Variance Analysis Reports and Trends
- Coordinate tax aspect of Half year review, Hard close audit and Full year statutory audit
- Assist in preparation of Board Papers Submission on tax related matters
- Provide Tax schedules and Group Tax Reports
- Alignment of tax reporting to financial reporting
- Tax Review of Company Budget, Business Plan and Quarterly Forecast
- Tax computation and provisioning for subsidiary
- Assist in dealing with BRM and Internal audit request and issues
- Supervise dealing with external tax queries from GRA and Vendors
- Annual review of PAYE Tax Computation before return is filed by the Salaries Unit
- Compute and file all tax returns including related reports to ensure MTNN’s compliance with all tax laws and regulations.
- Reconcile tax-related general ledger accounts and assist with special projects on need basis.
- Prepare income tax provisions for each period.
- Keep record of all tax transactions and related balance sheet activity for tax and audit purposes.
- Ensure proper filing system and maintain complete and well organized work papers and business records for tax purposes.
- Coordinate tax operations of subsidiary
- Facilitate month end activity by providing details with respect to tax provisions and adjustments
- Prepare quarterly forecasts for tax pay-outs.
- Prepare and provide input in budgeting provisional tax liability based on approved tax forecasts
- Compare all provisional tax calculations forecasted during the year with the actual audited tax liability
- Assist in providing evidence against related tax accounting and computation (for any external or internal audit requirement)
- Assist in providing corresponding transaction details for dispute resolution to tax authorities or legal advisors
