Where and how do I register for Mobile Money?

You can own an MTN Mobile Money wallet by going through 6 easy steps and enjoy the benefits of a whole new financial experience - ease, convenience, speed and security.

  1. With a valid photo ID card (Voter ID, Drivers’ License, Passport) go to the nearest MTN Mobile Money Authorised Merchant.
  2. The Merchant captures your personal details and gives you a Mobile Money SIM card.
  3. Insert your Mobile Money SIM in your phone. You will receive an SMS asking you to register.
  4. Go to “My MTN” on your mobile phone and select “Mobile Money”.
  5. Select “Register” and enter your photo ID type and number.
  6. Select and repeat Mobile Money PIN (4 digits).
  7. You will receive a welcome message on your phone.

Please keep this Mobile Money PIN confidential.

How do I top-up my airtime with Mobile Money?
  1. Make sure you have sufficient money in your Mobile Money Wallet.
  2. Go to “Mobile Money” menu and select “Top Up Airtime”.
  3. Enter amount.
  4. Enter and repeat mobile number to be credited (optional if you own mobile phone), confirm details and enter your Mobile Money PIN. You will receive a confirmation message of the successful MTN airtime top up.

How do I send money with Mobile Money?
  1. Dial *170#, reply with 1 and follow the prompts.
  2. Go to your SIM menu.
  3. Select Mobile Money.
  4. Select Transfer Money.
  5. Select either a Mobile or Mobile User.
  6. Enter recipient’s number.
  7. Enter amount to transfer.
  8. Enter Mobile Money pin to complete the transaction.

How many transfers can I make in a day?

There is no limit on the number of transactions but the maximum amount that can be transferred in a day is GH¢1000.

What do I need to register for any of the Wallets?

For Minimum Account you are required to provide the following:

  • Names
  • Date of Birth
  • Place of Birth
  • Residential address (including Landmarks close to the residence)
  • Telephone Number
  • Copy of any Type of Photo ID that can reliably identify the customer.

For Medium Account you are required to provide the following:

  • Names
  • Date of Birth
  • Place of Birth
  • Residential address (including Landmarks close to the residence)
  • Telephone Number
  • Valid Acceptable ID (National ID, Passport, Driver’s License, Voter ID, SSNIT Biometric ID or National Health Insurance Card)

     

    For Enhanced Account you are required to provide the following:

  • Names
  • Date of Birth
  • Place of Birth
  • Residential address (including Landmarks close to the residence)
  • Telephone Number
  • Valid Acceptable ID (National ID, Passport, Driver’s License, Voter ID, SSNIT Biometric ID or National Health Insurance Card)
  • Provide a Proof of address. (Registered Tenancy Agreement, Utility Bill, Income Income Tax Certificate, Tax Clearance Certificate, Other Banks’ Statements, Reference Letter, or Employer’s reference letter
